AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State is getting ready to go on the road and the Cyclones know what that means.Everyone is reminding them again of just how long it's been since they've won a road game. The Cyclones have lost 13 straight away from home heading into Saturday night's Big 12 game at Baylor. I don't know," ISU coach Gene Chizik said Monday. Chizik, in his second year at Iowa State, is 0-7 on the road.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Juice Williams pulled off an array of dazzling plays at Michigan, making it tough for TV producers to squeeze his performance into a highlight reel.Illinois' quarterback faked out everybody - including ABC's camera and his offensive coordinator in the press box - on a touchdown run. He sprinted for 50 yards on a draw and threw accurate passes in the flats and down the field.Williams, though, knows some of his incomplete passes pleased coach Ron Zook and offensive coordinator Mike Locksley during the Fighting Illini's 45-20 win over the Wolverines on Saturday. He eluded defenders on several occasions when he dropped back and often threw the ball out of bounds instead of taking a sack or throwing a risky pass." If I could only tell you how many times Coach Zook gets on me about scrambling and getting tackled in the backfield," Williams said.
Chippewa's Colby Busson was so busy torching the field Friday night against Rittman that the light rain cascading onto the field wasn't enough to put out the blaze. The junior exploded for 297 yards on 11 carries and five rushing touchdowns as the Chipps (4-3, 2-2) captured the Big Chief trophy with a 69-7 romp of the Indians. In the first five minutes of the game, Busson found the end zone three times on carries of 56, 29 and 52 yards to give Chippewa a 21-0 lead.
WOOSTER -- The one positive for Wooster's football team Friday night was that the rain waited until after the game to come down. Before that it wasn't pretty as Lexington marched up and down the field en route to a 56-6 drubbing of the Generals in an Ohio Cardinal Conference contest at Follis Field. "It was a frustrating start," Wooster coach Mike McCreary said.
Cabell Midland at South Charleston Lewis County's C.J. Rahming ran 13 times for 250 yards and three TDs in a 38-21 win over Buckhannon-Upshur. Philip Barbour's Jordan Simon carried 14 times for 239 yards and three TDs in a 55-21 win over Liberty Harrison.
HUNTINGTON - The good news is, the Marshall Thundering Herd is in first place in Conference USA's East Division six games into the 2008 college football season. The Thundering Herd's effort in both games was embarrassing and won't get it done against anyone, much less Conference USA powers East Carolina and Tulsa. Marshall is 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league play after its first six regular-season games with, in order, a 35-10 win over Illinois State, a 51-14 loss to Wisconsin, a 17-16 win over Memphis, a 34-27 win over Southern Mississippi, a 27-3 loss to West Virginia and a 33- 10 loss to Cincinnati.
MORGANTOWN - West Virginia quarterback Pat White was knocked out of a second consecutive game Saturday, but this time it was a hit to the head against Rutgers and not an aggravation of the left thumb injury that sidelined him against Marshall. Stewart said he was in regular contact with White's family Saturday night, but there was no cause for alarm. White was woozy after leaving the game, but he suffered no memory loss, nausea or any other symptoms of a concussion.
MORGANTOWN - West Virginia finished a football game with fewer than 30 points Saturday, just as it had done the previous three games. Not since 2000 has a WVU team gone five games without scoring 30 points. Yet Jock Sanders doesn't see what all the fuss is about.
MORGANTOWN - West Virginia offensive guard Josh Jenkins dislocated a kneecap in Saturday's 24-17 victory over Rutgers, according to a source close to the football team. WVU Coach Bill Stewart and Mountaineer offensive line coach Dave Johnson did not return messages Monday afternoon. Considered among the best offensive line prospects in the country as a senior last year, Jenkins picked WVU over Florida State and Ohio State on national signing day in February.
For an offense that had been struggling to finish off drives this season, running back Kevin Faulk proved to be the perfect closer Sunday in San Francisco, rushing for a pair of 2-yard touchdowns in the Pats' 30-21 victory. The veteran back also ran away with Player of the Game honors at bostonherald.com, ringing up 55 percent of the votes. Provided by ProQuest LLC. All rights Reserved
